November 14, 2013 Hop Bombshells Meeting

We have a new member: Megan. Welcome!

We had a few orders of business to cover:

A. By-Laws and Constitution.  We need to vote on the By-Laws and Constitution, but need to make a final decision on whether officers should hold their office for one or two years, and if officers should automatically move up on Board, or have the option to move up.  I think we should vote on this on the website.

B. December Meeting(s).

  1. Formal Meeting. Instead of a formal meeting in December, we will be having a social gathering that night, Thursday Dec. 12. December seems to be such a busy month for everyone, so we are going to keep it low-key. Bring a couple beers to share!
  2. Big-Ass Holiday Tasting. There is the Big-Ass Holiday Tasting that Krin and her husband and in-laws host that we are all invited to.  It is on Sat. Dec 14 from 7:00pm-11:30pm.
  3. Hop Bombshells Holiday Fundraiser.  We are doing a fundraiser at Hopper's Grill & Brewery on Sunday December 8, 2013 from 4:00pm-7:00pm.  We are going to have a big push to sell our calendars at this event,  so please invite everybody you know!  And dress up in pin-up! We will be signing calendars and selling them for $20.  Part of the proceeds will go to the YWCA of Salt Lake City.  Or if people want to bring in a bag of food, or a blanket or jacket, they will $5 off the calendar.  These donations will go to The Road Home and Utah Food Bank.

C. Use of Proceeds / Equipment Library. We also need to decide what we want in our equipment library. One of the perks of being part of the club is we get to rent out brewing gear from our library.  The gear will be stored at Beer Nut and you can rent stuff out for a day or two. Right now we have a burner and stand; what else do you all want?

D. Future Bombshell Competition. There was also a discussion on hosting out own beer competition near the end of spring - perhaps with our own style-guidelines (such as, Cascadian Dark or "$40 or Less Beer"). If we go this route, we won't be able to be AHA-sanctioned, so that's a consideration. We also like the idea of calling this the "I Brewed My Shit in a Bucket Competition" - love it!

E. AHA National Homebrewers Conference. It would be nice to have a representation at the AHA National Homebrewers Conference held June 12-14 in Lansing, Michigan. This trip would be on our own dime; would there be any volunteers?

After discussing these items, we had an educational presentation on Stouts by Emily P. And also sampled some great stouts from everywhere.

We hope to see you at one or all the events in the coming weeks! If not, have a great holiday season!
