June 12, 2014 Hop Bombshells Meeting

It was great to see everyone that could make last night! And we want to welcome Allison (and Isaac!) to the club.

For official club news:

We have been invited to do a collaboration brew with The Annex!  Because of timing, we needed to make a quick decision last night on which recipe to use. This beer also needs to be scaled down to a 4% beer, so we decided to use my ESB recipe.  We will get details sorted out on when we are going to brew with them, but I believe it will be sometime in July.

The Lauter Day Brewers also did a collaboration brew with The Annex and are having a release part next Friday, June 20 at 7:00pm and a bunch of us are going.  To see the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/491163361013572/

We are also having our quarterly brew day on June 29th.  This will be at Johanna’s place.  We are doing whatever style you and your brewing partner(s) decide, but will be partial mash and extract.  We will pair everyone up when we've heard from you.  Please email us if you would like to brew

Becky has set our group up with a Brewtoad account: http://www.brewtoad.com/groups/hop-bombshells-of-utah  This is a great way to store recipes and share them or rate/comment on recipes or see if your recipe conforms to the style.  It is free and works great with a smart phone or tablet and super easy to use.  We have 13 recipes and would love to have more!  Please check it out!

Dave Watson (brewmaster at Bonneville) and his wife just had a baby and so Jamie is getting beers together for a thank you gift basket for hosting us for our meeting in May.  If you have any beer to donate, please give it to Jamie in the next few days.

The Beehive Brewoff will now be the 23rd of August – it had to be changed because the City Weekly Beer Fest was the same weekend.  Jamie would love to have you as stewards and/or judges! Please let her know if this is something you’d be interested in.

Also – shirts! Remember to pick up your shirts.  They are $35.  We did get some extra so if you forgot to order, ask Jamie if she has your size and color.

We also had a chance to do a mock-judging session last night with the BJCP guidelines.  This will be great practice for future competitions, so if you have any questions on judging or guidelines or the whole judging experience, please ask us anytime!

It was so good to see you all last night! That seriously seemed like the longest month in between meetings.
